I have some advice for the Trump team. First, let me say I love President Trump. No bigger supporter than me. I conceived of and put on seven Trump rallies that had 45,000 people in attendance and I loved every minute of them.
A little more background so you understand my expertise. I’m a professional speaker. 2500 speeches under my belt. My 25th book comes out the week before the election. The last 1000 speeches have been on a book I wrote called The Art of Influence. I’ve built my career on understanding how to persuade people.
I believe that 90% of the people who are going to vote have already made up their minds and you cannot change their vote unless something catastrophic happens. It could actually be 95%, but go with me.
That means 10% of the country could go either way. This means they do not hold to strong partisan positions. They are not “fans” of either candidate. They are looking for something VERY specific. Competence. A plan. Leadership. I believe that Trump has a 7-3 lead by default with those undecideds but they are not assured.
What do they want to see from Trump to lock in? Competence. A plan. Leadership.
So here’s my advice.
Spend the next two months talking only about your plan for the following:
Gas, groceries, crime, war, and the border. Then talk about gas, groceries, crime, war, and the border. When you’re done talking about that? Gas, groceries, crime, war, and the border.
Those 10% do not care one single iota about the 2020 election. They hate the name calling. I know better than anyone how to craft and deliver an applause line and they are fun to get, but these 10% are not buying the red meat talking points.
Mr. President, I’m a believer in what you did in your first term. I want you to win. Our nation depends on it. You need to convince 6% of the population in the next two months. Speak directly to them over and over and over again:
Gas, groceries, crime, war, and the border.
That’s how Trump gets elected again.
