As we approach Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus. For many, it is simply a time for presents, decorations, cookies and hot chocolate, and festive music. But for billions of people worldwide, it is the celebration of the birth of Christ, the Savior of mankind. When you think about it, Jesus was the most influential man to ever live. Why? Because He was God in human flesh.

Jesus taught us the way to God. That is the story of Christmas. Jesus came to earth – God in human flesh – to show us the way back to God. Now, 2000 years later, Jesus’ influence still makes it’s mark on the world through His disciples who fulfill the great commission. Jesus commands us to use our influence to make disciples, fulfilling the Great Commission found in Matthew 28. Our life purpose is to make disciples. So how do we do that? We follow the example of Jesus.

When we think about Jesus and the way He influenced others, we come to realize how we are to influence others. As His disciples, we follow His ways and teachings. So, what are the keys to influence that Jesus lived by and teaches us to do the same? Here are some from Jesus: Master of Influence:

Rely on the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us and will give us the words we need to share with others. We are to be Spirit-led.

Act on the Authority of Jesus. Jesus gives us the authority of Heaven itself to go forth in His name to influence others. His authority is now our authority.

Understand the power of words and the Word. Jesus was the Word of God. The Bible is the Word of God and the Sword of the Spirit. Use the Word to share with others!

Be prepared. Peter tells us to be prepared at all times to give an account for the faith we have. Are you prepared?

Understand that we are sowing seeds. The parable of the Sower is great because it teaches us that our job is to sow the seed and the good soil will produce the crop it is intended to.

Compassion is an effective tool of influence. The story of the woman caught in adultery is a great example of how showing someone forgiveness and compassion can influence them. Sinners don’t need condemnation. They need compassion.

These are just a few ways that we can learn to influence others like Jesus, the Master of Influence. As you celebrate the birth of Christ this year, think about why He came: To save the world and use you to get the Word out to the lost.
