The Miraculous Power of Words.

Have you ever thought about what a word is? Or what happens when a word comes out of your mouth? The whole process is a miracle, really. Think about it…

A word starts as a thought in your mind. That thought tells your diaphragm to compress air out of your lungs. Then it goes through our larynx, passes through our mouths where our tongue and lips move and form that air. Then it becomes a vibration that floats through the air. Someone else’s ear catches it and it hits their ear drum and a signal is sent to their brain which is converted and it creates thoughts and emotions, resulting in reactions from the other person. It may not be a perfect description, but that is in essence what happens. The process is an absolute miracle. Thoughts become air which become vibrations which become thoughts which become emotions and actions.

Now, here is the part that involves responsibility, our responsibility. Our words can be for good or for ill.

The old proverb says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” So true. What you say has an effect. You can – with your words – create either positive or negative reactions from those who hear you. It is in your power to use your words, and that is a weighty responsibility.

Have you ever listened to yourself talk? Try it for a couple of weeks and notice whether you are breathing life into situations, or death. Are you building up or tearing down?

Men, how would your wife react if you said, “You are the most beautiful woman in the world to me. I love you so much.”

Women, how would your husband react if you said, “I am so proud of you. You are an incredible husband. I am so glad you’re mine.”

Parents, how would your children react to, “You are an incredible kid. You are smart and talented. I can’t wait to see how amazing your life becomes. You have so much ahead of you. I’m glad you are our child.”

Bosses, how would your employees respond to, “”Great work. You have done a fantastic job. I’m sure glad you work here. I don’t know what we would do without you.”

How about we all give it a try? Be purposeful with your words. Use them to build people up. Try to see how much life you can breathe into other people today.
