Why go the extra step to tell us that Ukraine is a model democracy when it’s not at all?

The United States cannot be a beacon of freedom, of light in the world, if we are not free.

Tucker contrasts Ukraine’s “democracy,” which is banning opposing political parties and news organizations, with what we should hold on to here in the United States. Highlights include:

“What exactly is democracy? Well, pluralism is the hallmark of it. In a democracy, citizens can have any opinion they want to have. They can express any opinion they want in public whenever they care to express it, including through mass media. If citizens are dissatisfied with their political leadership, they can challenge their leaders for office.”

“Now, all of these things are true in every free country in every period, always. These are not just features of democracy, these are prerequisites for democracy.”

“So, with that in mind, you should know about a political party in Ukraine called ‘Opposition Platform For Life.’ Over the weekend, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, banned that party.”

“Having banned all opposition, he then seized control of the country’s media outlets. Zelenskyy signed a decree that combines all national television channels into a single platform that he controls. He described this as a ‘unified information policy,’ and it certainly is unified.”

“So, if all of these details seem shocking to you, if this is not the Zelenskyy you’ve heard about on the Today Show, then you may not have been paying attention to Ukraine. Zelenskyy has been solidifying complete control over Ukraine for a long time.”

“What we care about, what all Americans should care about, is what happens here in the United States. The United States is a beacon of hope and freedom to the rest of the world. How do we maintain that inspiring position? Not simply by sending people missiles, but by remaining free ourselves. The United States cannot be a beacon of freedom, of light in the world, if we are not free. So, that’s the first thing we do if we want to inspire and change the world, Ukraine included … is make sure that we stay free.”

“Why go the extra step to tell us that Ukraine is a model democracy when it’s not at all? Why are they doing that? Maybe because Ukraine has now has exactly the sort of ‘democracy’ they’d like to see here in the United States.”

“So, maybe you’re starting to conclude these people love Zelenskyy not because he represents the Ukrainian people, but because Zelenskyy is exactly the leader they would like to be, with wildly expanded war powers to make everyone who complained shut up at gunpoint.”

“So, murdering POWs is a war crime, so is castrating them, we’re not shocked by this. This happens in a lot of countries, Ukraine is not unique. Atrocities happen during war, every war, always, no matter what the neocons may tell you.”

“But this is a war that we are paying for. This is a war with moral implications. This is a war the White House is involved in at every level. So, when the Ukrainian government does something, we have an interest in knowing exactly what it is and what it means. But more than anything, we have an overriding interest and a moral obligation to keep the United States free.”

“So, when you see them admire someone who’s shutting down any opposition to him, you should pause.”

Tucker: We’re Back.

At the most basic level, the news you consume is a lie, a lie of the stealthiest and most insidious kind. Facts have been withheld on purpose, along with proportion and perspective. You are being manipulated.

Tucker again lays into the media propaganda machine as he announces he’s taking the show to Twitter. Highlights include:

“You often hear people say that news is full of lies, but most of the time, that’s not exactly right. Much of what you see on television or read in the New York Times is, in fact, true in the ‘literal’ sense, it could pass one of the media’s own ‘fact checks.’ Lawyers would be willing to sign off on it, in fact they may have. But that doesn’t make it true. It’s not true.”

“The best you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the fullest truth that you can, but there are always limits, and you know that if you bump up against those limits often enough, you will be fired for it. That’s not a guess, it’s guaranteed. Every person who works in the English language media understands that. The rule of what you can’t say defines everything. It’s filthy, really, and it’s utterly corrupting.”

“For the most part, the news that you see analyzed on Twitter comes from media organizations that are themselves thinly disguised propaganda outlets. You see it on cable news, you talk about it on Twitter. The result may feel like a debate, but actually the gatekeepers are still in charge. We think that’s a bad system. We know exactly how it works, and we’re sick of it.”

Tucker: See you soon

When honest people say what’s true calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful. At the same time, the liars who’ve been trying to silence them shrink.

Oh gosh, I’m using Twitter. Tucker dropped a video today on his Twitter account, again commenting on the current state of US media and finishing with a hopeful “See you soon.” Highlights include:

“One of the first things you realize when you step outside the noise for a few days is how many genuinely nice people there are in this country, kind and decent people, people who really care about what’s true, and a bunch of hilarious people also, a lot of those, it’s gotta be the majority of the population, even now, so that’s heartening. The other thing you notice when you take a little time off is how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are…”

“Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it. Suddenly, the United States looks very much like a one party state. That’s a depressing realization, but it’s not permanent. Our current orthodoxies won’t last. They’re brain dead.”

“This moment is too inherently ridiculous to continue, and so it won’t. The people in charge know this, that’s why they’re hysterical and aggressive. They’re afraid. They’ve given up persuasion, they’re resorting to force. But it won’t work. When honest people say what’s true calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful. At the same time, the liars who’ve been trying to silence them shrink, and they become weaker. That’s the iron law of the universe, true things prevail.”
