Billions of people over the years have found out that the Scriptures, the Holy Bible, can change your life. Many people think that the Bible is just for spiritual things, but the Bible is also for daily practical success as well. God wants us to live a life filled with abundance that gives God the glory. I have found one Bible verse that wraps up all personal development and personal growth into one verse. It has the entire equation for success in life. Now, just to be clear, I’m not saying that you are going to get rich or never have any problems with this. I am saying that in order to live life for God, and to succeed in that life and give glory to God, we must live it according to the way that the creator teaches us. This verse does just that.
Romans 12:1 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Wow. Powerful. Let’s break it down a little.
Key words are “conform” and “transform.”
First, a basic understanding of those words. “Con” is a prefix that means “with” and “Trans” is a prefix that means “across.”
So when Paul says do not be conformed, he means do not be with the form of the world. Do not live according to their pattern. We are to live according to God’s way. You do that by being “transformed” into the image of God. Interestingly, the Greek word for transformed in that verse is “metamorphousthe.” Do you see it? It is where we get the word “metamorphosis.” This is the process that a caterpillar goes through to be a beautiful butterfly! In other words, God is saying, “Don’t be a caterpillar. Be a butterfly!”

Now, the last part. How do you transform? You do it by renewing your mind. You make your mind new. How? You take every thought captive (II Cor. 10:5). You study the Word of God and really internalize it. You fill it with “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable…” And he tells us “if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Phil 4:8)
In other words, you give your mind to Christ and allow Him, by the Holy Spirit, to transform your mind, making your life into the life of a new creation as it says in II Cor. 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

When we think of those who are to be pitied, we typically think of those who are less fortunate, the poor, the destitute, the downtrodden. Those who are sick or disfigured.

But what if we are missing the whole point of life?
Far more in need of our pity is not those mentioned above. No, far more to be pitied are the wildly successful, if they do not know the Lord. Think of it!
The multi-millionaire businessperson…
The Grammy awarded singer…
The championship winning athlete…
The scientist who develops cures…
And yet when they die, it is all over. There is no eternal victory. They won the battle, but not the war. A lifetime of achievement with no eternal reward. One infinitesimal moment of time in eternity.
Yet those mentioned earlier, if they know the Lord, it is but a short period of time in the grand scheme of eternity. A lifetime of suffering completed and capped off with an eternity of beauty and bliss.
So, who is to be pitied? And what about you? Do you know the Lord?
