Staying Sane in Tumultuous Times

Focus on the long-term to give yourself the opportunity to consider humanity from a better vantage point

Published

on

These days, it’s easy to open a newspaper, log on to the web, flip on the TV, or tap your smartphone to quickly find news from around the world that are not to your liking. If this happens to you once a day, consider yourself lucky. For most people, it happens multiple times a day.

It’s important in times of stirring change to remember that all we can do is all we can do. Become the master of your own domain and that will be fine. Open up your intellectual kimono to every other issue that comes your way, and you’ll soon feel frustrated and defeated.

Equanimity Matters

Here are four tips that you can put into place now to maintain some semblance of equanimity throughout the course of the day, week, month, year and your career despite what news comes down the pike.

1.  Pick a handful of causes or issues that you choose to follow and/or support. You can’t be on top of everything and can’t give your heart out in all directions. Narrow the field to what really matters to you and then give yourself permission to dive deeply into those issues.

2. Don’t waste any time sparring online with others or trying to convince anybody else of your viewpoint when it’s clear that they’ve already dug in their heels. It’s fine for people to arrive at consensus, but it’s a mutual process. If one party is too heavily invested in achieving a particular outcome, when the other is not, pretty much nothing is going to happen.

3. Give yourself a recurring rest from current events. That in turn helps to alleviate some of your stress and anxiety. You’ve likely got decades to go in this life. You don’t want to dissipate too much more of your time on issues upon which you can do nothing. Pick your spots, stay true to your interests, and recognize that it will be all right. You can take time away from the information maelstrom. There is no cosmic scoreboard in the sky detailing whether or not you’ve kept pace hour by hour or day by day. You deserve a break today. Give yourself some time without tuning in.

4. Recognize that breaking news, as well as fads and what is currently trending, has a way of going by the wayside quickly. Rather than get caught up in the minutia of popular culture, focus on long-term trends. For example,

* Where is humanity heading?

* What will the health be of the typical adult 10 years from now?

* What major milestones are likely to be accomplished within the next decade?

Vantage Point

By focusing on the long-term, rather than fads or current events, you give yourself the opportunity to consider humanity in the world from a better vantage point.

Merrick Garland’s DOJ is out of control, for example …

The point of what Biden’s Justice Department is doing is not to bring justice; the point is to terrify and intimidate his political opponents.

Tucker continues his coverage on the DOJ and FBI’s raid on homes of people who’ve merely criticized the current administration. Highlights include:

“… an update on the Biden administration’s armed crackdown on its critics. Earlier this month, the long time FBI agent and SWAT team veteran called Steve Friend came forward to blow the whistle on what he has seen happen to the FBI under Joe Biden, and what he said was shocking.”

“According to Agent Friend, Biden’s FBI routinely uses heavily armed SWAT teams to raid the homes of American citizens who dare to criticize the administration. Now, to be clear, these are people who pose no danger to anyone. These are people who haven’t even been accused, much less convicted of a violent crime. So the point is not to bring justice, the point is to terrify and intimidate Joe Biden’s political opponents.”

“On September 19, the FBI suspended Agent Steve Friend for daring to reveal what was happening, these abuses.”

“Now, it’s illegal under federal law to punish whistleblowers, but the FBI did it anyway. And then, four days later, with Friend out of the way, on the morning of September 23, a team of nearly 30 FBI agents bristling with automatic weapons raided the home of yet another harmless man with no criminal record. That man’s name was Mark Houck. Houck is 47, he’s a leader in his local Catholic community. FBI agents pointed rifles at Houck and his wife in front of their seven children.”

“Once again, to be clear, Houck is not a terrorist, he’s never been accused of terrorism. He is instead a pro-lifer.”

“Now, Houck learned about three months ago that the DOJ planned to charge him and he offered to turn himself in voluntarily. That’s what a civilized country allows. But that wasn’t good enough for Merrick Garland’s DOJ. They wanted to punish him and terrify his family to send the right message to anyone who would dare get in the way of the Biden agenda. So the DOJ sent a team of federal agents with rifles to Houck’s home. He now faces 11 years in prison for protecting his son.”

The people of Italy win big

Of course, leftist tyrants are not happy.

Published

Tucker compares what’s going on in Europe with our own corrupt government here and finds them quite similar. Also, Giorgia Meloni’s big win in Italy, why she won and why the American left can’t stand it. Highlights include:

“Not a lot of Americans pay attention to European politics unless they’re very bored or work at some think-tank, and that’s understandable, but it’s a shame really, because if you look closely at what’s happening in Europe, you can learn a lot about what’s happening here.”

“Despite the castles and the funny accents and the smelly cheese, Europe is not actually that different from the United States, at least in this way. European leaders run their countries pretty much the same way our leaders run our country. They yammer on endlessly about democracy, but then at the same time they do their best to avoid democracy’s most basic requirements, like free speech and representative government.”

“You run a country in the name of the people. You’re not a king, you’re a democratically elected leader. You run it in the name of the people who live there, but at the same time it’s ‘dangerous’ to allow the opinions of those people to influence your decisions.”

“Does that sound familiar? It does because it’s exactly the kind of democracy that we live in, which is to say, a fake one.”

“In fact, there is no majority in any country on planet Earth that thinks open borders are a good idea, or that considers global warming the single biggest problem, or that thinks it’s wise to quarantine the entire population because of a flu virus. No large group of people anywhere wants these things. But in the west, everybody gets them anyway because politicians don’t care what you think. Your opinion is ‘dangerous’.”

“Shut up, racist!”

“This summer, a conservative populist called Giorgia Meloni started showing up with strong supports in the polls. Meloni was no radical, her views would’ve seemed perfectly ordinary just a decade ago. But because she resolutely refused to bow to the twin gods of climate and mass migration, people panicked. The president of the European Commission, in fact, on camera commanded Italians not to vote for her.”

“These aren’t mysteries, but you’re not allowed to acknowledge them in public, period. In some places it’s illegal. But, Meloni is one of the few politicians who doesn’t care and has been willing to say the obvious, the Truth, out loud, and as a result of that, because she’s been willing to say what everybody actually knows, last night her party, called ‘Brothers of Italy,’ won an overwhelming victory in Italy.”

“American families are facing the very same onslaught from the very same poisonous ideologies. The difference is that in this country it’s rarely acknowledged except on the fringes. Meloni is not on the fringes, she’s the new Prime Minister of Italy, she will be, and she’s saying it out loud. Contrast that to what’s happening in the United States. House Republicans just spelled out what they’re running on. It’s a document called ‘the Commitment to America.'”

“You probably haven’t read it, nobody really cares. Why? Because there’s nothing real in it. There’s not a single word in that document about the attacks on the American family that you see every day.”

“It’s their hysteria and their total unwillingness to ask obvious questions that lets you in on the secret, which is they’re panicked, because they know the current system is doomed.”

“And in fact, what happened last night in Italy is the best case scenario for them, because it was a peaceful transfer of power. That’s a good thing, that’s what you want. In a democracy, people should be allowed to have some influence on the priorities of the government that claims to represent them. And when they speak in an election, the people who’ve been repudiated have a moral obligation to pause just for one second and ask, ‘Why didn’t they like what I was offering them?'”

“But they never ask themselves that. They never take any blame whatsoever.”
