Out-of-Context ‘Journalism’ Prevails

Liberal publishers and reporters revel in anything that lambasts, lampoons, and demonizes any view that strays from the liberal narrative

Aided and abetted by a gullible populace, the ‘mainstream’ media, 24/7, 365 days a year, for decades, knowingly misrepresents any viewpoints that differ from its own. Indeed, many media outlets do this, all the time. They take sound bites and out-of-context material and run with it.

Making broadsweeping generalizations is often fraught with danger, but the evidence is ample and non-stop. Simply click on HuffPost.com, Daily Kos, or The Daily Beast, or any of dozens of other left-leaning sites, at any given time.

Not an Even Playing Field

Do right-leaning news outlets and websites do the same? Less so if only because the GOP does not control the narrative as do the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and the major papers in Boston, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, ad infinitum.

As a lifelong registered independent and I have voted on all sides of the political spectrum. In recent years, I’ve seen the ‘progressives’ go too far on a range of issues.

I recognize that some in the GOP are behind the times. However, consider that most of the press votes Democrat (85% to 88% in every election) decade after decade, across all jurisdictions, regardless of the candidate, the issues, or the platforms.

The U.S. press, in the main, slants everything to the left. Life-long liberal publishers and reporters revel in sound bites and out-of-context journalism that lambasts, lampoons, and demonizes anyone or any view that strays from the liberal narrative.

Indoctrination Nation

The journalism schools, from Columbia in Missouri, on down, invariably steer students to the left. To sell newspapers, advertising, or other services, the Left’s sound bite, out-of-context approach works as well and, as quickly, as anything.

The Left predictably is most vicious and displays its unbarred racism when characterizing right-leaning African Americans or other minority individuals – those who have the temerity to form their own opinion. Think Condoleezza Rice, Allen West, Armstrong Williams, Larry Elder, Jason Whitlock, Clarence Thomas, the late Herman Cain, Alan Keyes, Senator Tim Scott, and Candace Owens, among legions of others.

A Declaration of War, Long in the Making

Leftist factions within the U.S. would like to bring it down and burn the entire country to the ground

With all that’s going on in America right now, it would be easy for those of us who love this country to throw up our hands in despair. There is another way, however, to view what is happening.

Unquestionably, the nationwide protest following the 2020 tragedy in Minneapolis spiraled out of control and become something else. It was not spontaneous, however, it was crafted. In city after city, organized campaigns to commit violence in the guise of protesting police brutality, required weeks, if not months, of planning.

Three Distinct Groups

Those in the streets represent three different groups. First were peaceful, lawful protesters who had a legal right to march. Second were violent anarchist types, mainly composed of Leftists seeking to foment violence in American cities. We’ll come back to this group in a moment.

Third were your neighborhood looters, not necessarily organized, but those who actually enjoy smashing in storefronts and taking whatever expensive goods that they can, when the opportunity arises. These garden variety-type looters, while harmful to America, are not on the same plane as the committed anarchists.

The war that Leftists have chosen to wage on America has been brewing for many decades, and only coming to a head in the 21st century. Rather than lament the sad state of affairs, we can view what is unfolding in a different light.

Exposed Their True Agenda

Those perpetrating violence, theft, and destruction of property have thoroughly exposed themselves and their aims for everyone to see. The cat is completely out of the bag. There can be no mistake that such factions within the U.S. would like to bring it down and burn the entire country to the ground. Concurrently, the Biden administration will do nothing to vanquish Leftist marauders.

The planning and effort last year needed to perpetrate such mayhem costs multi-millions of dollars. Think of it, across the U.S. all of the trucks required where bricks were carefully collected, transported, unloaded, and assembled in neat piles. Such efforts took considerable planning. As seen in Kansas City, Dallas, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and countless other cities, those days represented a looter’s paradise.

The rioters, piggybacking off of the peaceful protesters, and the looters that they knew would be forthcoming, have an intricate network in place. And, mind you, this will not be their last major show. They know the press will cover for them and they know Biden will do nothing. They’re waiting for the opportunity to unload on our nation, or they will ‘create’ the ‘opportunity.’

The Commitment to Win

Today, at the least, anyone with functioning cognitive capability can understand that unless municipalities commit to arresting the ringleaders of such violence and publicly prosecuting them, local government unwittingly indicates that it’s okay to foment violence, that anarchy works, and that no one in authority will resist.

So, take heed. This revolution has been long in the making. Like it or not, we are at war internally. The war might last years or it might last decades. Regardless of how long it takes, we must resolve to win.

Work-life Balance, Integration, and Harmony: Essential for Well-Being

Those who feel like they have work-life balance are better off than those who might actually have it but don’t perceive themselves to have it

Organizations everywhere proudly proclaim that their people are their most important assets. Human resource departments, populated by human resource specialists, are assembled to ensure that the best people are brought on board, given the training and education that they need to be successful, and have an array of competitive benefits.

Over the years, however, as I speak at conferences and conventions, in person or online, it has become quite clear that while organizations proclaim that the work-life balance of their human resources is important, actually it is given short shrift.

Many times, when I’ve been booked to give a presentation or workshop on attaining work-life balance, integration, and harmony — and delivered more than 1060 of them — my session was scheduled by the host organization merely to placate attendees. These staff people then go back to an oppressive work environment, hoping for some type of respite as the weeks progress.

Misery Leaves Clue

What are some of the hallmarks of a workforce not in balance?  For one, credit card debt per capita remains high, meaning that people are spending more than they’re earning. If they had sufficient funds to pay off their credit cards, and avoid the exorbitant interest, most surely would.

Our workforce is gaining weight, which one might imply means that they have no time to exercise. Most people do have time to exercise but they choose not to, instead indulging in activities that require only armchair-related movement.

Perhaps worst of all, the reliance on chemicals – in liquid or pill form – is at alarming levels. Generally speaking, individuals who achieve a sense of work-life balance don’t need to pop pills for this and that.

Carve Out Space and Time

If your organization values work-life balance, you are fortunate. Whether or not that is the case, here are a few strategies, out of dozens, from my book Breathing Space. These strategies will help you to carve out a little space and time for yourself, if not every day, then at least several times per week:

1) Arrive at your workplace early. Don’t leave home at the last minute required to arrive on time. Depart 10 or 15 minutes earlier, even if not necessary. Why? When you arrive earlier than usual, you have a chance to center yourself, reflect on the day ahead, and make small changes to your immediate environment.

All things being equal, the employee who arrives even five minutes early has a better chance of starting the day more focused than the employee who arrives with only a minute to spare.

2) Is it tough for you to eat breakfast at seven and last ‘til lunch at 12, with nothing in between? If so, bring healthy snacks so that you can take that break as needed and maintain your blood sugar level. Otherwise, you might have a craving for the kinds of foods that you don’t need: highly sugared, salted, or fat-laden snacks.

Yes it takes a little time in the morning to cut carrots or put peanut butter on whole wheat crackers, but the payoff comes over and over again as you feel more productive and energetic at work and your performance reflects that.

3) Linger occasionally, 30 to 60 seconds, before going to the restroom, before and after meetings, before and after lunch, and so on. Those extra seconds can make a huge difference in your mental health for that day, and cumulatively, for the days and weeks that follow.

4) When you’re at lunch, be at lunch. Don’t bring work with you, and don’t fret about what you have to do when you return to work. Consume a good, nutritious lunch.

Actually taste the food, and chew it thoroughly. In short, do everything your mother told you to do several decades ago. It makes a difference.

Perception Matters

The personal quest for work-life balance is based more on perception than anything else. Those who periodically feel like they have work-life balance are better off than those who might actually have a balance between their work and personal life but don’t perceive themselves to have it!

So, acknowledge the good things going on in your career, at home, and everywhere in between. Your recurring positive thoughts lead to even greater positivity.
